I am not complaining about anything, I don't want to be labeled for having a hipster attitude when I don't even know what that should be like. Again, I don't hate on digital photography. I just don't dig the vast amount of photos uploaded daily on the internet.

I'm just here to ponder in a thread dedicated to confessions. No need to get all jumpy.

I agree with you. I think that people should exercise more tact when not only taking photos, but sharing them online.

I have an issue with the amount of survailance cameras used. They are everywhere from street corners to buildings and traffic lights. I know it's in the name of "safety" but really when it comes down to it, crime is still going to happen. All cameras mean is that it will be caught on tape. A smart criminal will have their face covered anyway.

To support my statement, there is an app that's called Spy Cam and it allows the user to view camera feeds from all around the world. The most common places are beaches and such. But there are also indoor volleyball courts, resturants and even a water park. I don't want some person watching me in a bathing suit while I'm wake boarding. It's creepy. There needs to be firm rules in place about where there are camera and who can view the footage and when it can be viewed

So you're quitting or that just happened? Either way congrats!

And yes, surveillance cameras annoy the crap out of me as well. Sometimes you find them in the most ridiculous places.

And yes, surveillance cameras annoy the crap out of me as well. Sometimes you find them in the most ridiculous places.

I know. I remember when I was in elementary school (primary I think it is for you international folk) when they installed a video camera on the bus. I just remember feeling uncomfortable and everyday I would ride to and from school crouched down in the seat.

I can see having one for your property. I had my dog out on his lead one day and when I went out to get him, his collar was still there, but it was unsnapped. So the only thing I can think of was someone came over and let him loose. There is no way he could have undone it himself. It's hard enough to get the damn thing off with thumbs. So for things like that, it would be useful.

I read an article about surveillance and it was about New York and the statue of liberty and how there are hundreds of cameras that are monitered by software that dectects when something like a bookbag was left by a bench or if someone's behavior is bizarre.

And I know all of these things are in place for the name of good. But you also have to consider their power when used for nefarious deeds. I really wish people had the mentality that existed in the 60s. There are so many things that should be protested.

Back when I was in high school, I watched something on public access and it was the principal and he was saying something about the cameras in the school. Well the middle school didn't have any in the building at all. The high school had them at entrances and a couple of the hallways and in the cafeteria. Right around the time I left, there were 16 in the building. But because of some prank bomb threats, security was increased. The number of cameras then jumped to 48 or something. It was insane.

I don't want to live in a constantly patroled world. Yes, there are sick people out there who want to do harm to people. But those are the minority.

Whenever I see a camera I think "what all could that catch?" Like in high school there was a camera that monitered the hallway to the gym and mens locker room. If a guy came down shirtless or took his shirt off before he went upstair, it would be on camera. And yeah, it's out in the open and anyone present would be able to see it regardless. So it's on film, the principals have access to the cameras. Say one of them has a fondness for kids. He pulls up the tape and films it with his camera or copies the file for his own use at home. Now you've got some middle aged guy getting primal to a video of a young man half dressed. And it could go on for years unless a mistep is taken.

This has gotten really long. I doubt any of you have read this far, but I just have strong feelings on the matter. The digital era is a great, wonderful, powerful, useful, scary and dangerous thing. It's allowed us to do things that were only imagined and beyond. But a lot of laws are still set in the stone age. And without proper laws to offer reprecussions, offenders can get off on a loophole, because there wasn't a law that was broken.

It's like Simon's original thought. The one photo could go anywhere from Facebook to Tumbler to Twitter to Flickr to Perez Hilton to Gawker to TheDirty.com to an employer or a relative or a pervert.

k, i'm done

Exactly. It all serves a purpose but it can easily be misused.

I like when PP convos get this serious by the way. Makes me feel all prophet-y and important

I got sick. My throat hurt so much I couldn't smoke. And since it is said that the physical dependance lasts for three weeks after you quit, I waited those three, then got drunk, smoked a whole cigarette and threw up minutes after that since my body wasn't used to the nicotine. I had a puff from someone since then when I was out drinking but that has been months now. You just have to be prepared it ain't gonna be easy and the cravings don't really go away but they keep getting smaller.

My motivation was my boyfriend who is a non smoker. And also all the health benefits. I even downloaded an android app that helped me monitor how much money I've saved, what things I have reached (sudden death risk elimination etc.) and so on, so that helped too. I also felt like **** after that one whole cigarette, mentally that is.
